Datchworth Rugby Club

Datchworth Women 1st XV are now officially the Datchworth Ferns. The players and coaching team wanted a name that reflected the green of Datch and the strength and unity of the team. Ferns were the perfect choice (we learnt a lot of Fern Facts along the way).

This is a team that embraces new and novice players who want to move clubs, return to the game or try it for the first time. You'll be welcomed in to a supportive environment that nutures and empowers players to achieve their best, whatever level that might be. We applaud and respect effort, commitment, determination, resilience but above all a great sense of humour. We're all here to play rugby but we play it because it's fun and we make sure it stays that way. We always try hard and we play to win, but where's the fun in winning if you're not having a great time.

We're as much about the social aspect of the game as we are the game itself. There's something for everyone and we're as inclusive as we can be. We have players from 17 to 60 so you can forget the excuse of being too old. We have a wonderful mix of tall, short, skinny, chunky, quick, slow, strong, agile, skilful, clumsy, vocal and shy.

If you're reading this and are even slighty tempted to give it go yourself... just go for it! You'll be able to develop at your own pace with no pressure to go beyond your limits. But we might try and show you that your limits are probably higher than you think.

You’ll make new mates, have fun, get fit and you might even discover a side to youself that you didn’t know was there.
